Artsakh and Lake Sevan
|
During
the Zakarian Dynasty, art and writing flourished in Northeast
Armenia. Khachen in particular managed to remain relatively
independent from the Mongols.
From
the 1224 Gospels from Artsakh. This miniature blends
both simple folk art design with a luxurious gold
background, close in feel to the Siunik style.

Historical miniatures
are rarely included in ornamental headpieces. The representation
of the Virgin has an affinity with Toros Taronatsi’s miniature
