Overnight, huge dinner, bedtime tea and breakfast for US$25 per person. Worth the splurge. Van Motel Inexpensive - Moderate (2 stars) On outer ring road, take left as you enter town. Lost? Ask directions. Tel: (374-31) 4 80 24, ask for Valodia, David or Arsen. This smart restaurant and lodge offers 6 suites with private entrances off the main dining area and 2 LUX suites upstairs. Near Echmiadzin

Zvartnots Motel/Restaurant Inexpensive-Moderate (1-2 stars) located 3 kilometers east of Hripsimeh (200 meters west of the entrance to Zvartnots Vank) on the north side of Echmiadzin-Yerevan Highway. Take bus #111 from Echmiadzin or Yerevan, or # 1, 2 or 3 from Echmiadzin. (mobile ( from Yerevan 821-40-26-31, ask for Valodia) One of the most pleasant surprises in Armenia. Open in January of 1998, the complex includes 11 cottages (7 single story doubles and 4 two-story quads), a full-service restaurant, bar, disco, casino, outdoor pool, sauna, weight room, all set in a tropical garden. The air-conditioned cottages have separate living/dining rooms, baths, bedrooms and porch, with ample space for folks to move around. Satellite TV, stereo system, maid service and Jacuzzi tubs in the quads round out this well-maintained complex. Double/Quad cottages cost AMD 20,000/30,000. Breakfast/lunch/dinner costs around AMD 3000/4000/5000. Lake Motel Inexpensive-Moderate (1-2 stars) On Aknalich Hwy, 2 kilometers from Metsamor excavation, ask for directions at Taronik village. This venue has 7 bright and comfortable units, a lake to call your own and one of the best views of Ararat we’ve seen, cable TV, an International telephone connection, central heat and air conditioning, hot showers, and fresh food at the pier restaurant. Breakfast included. Prices for SGL- LUX at $15-50 dollars a room (double occupancy). Setraki Motel Inexpensive-Moderate (1 star) located on Aknalich (Akna Lake), 700 meters from Lake Motel entrance (left on side street at rock wall, 200 meters, green wire gate on left. Res. Tel: (374-1) 27-73-69, ask for Spartak. 10 cottages in wooded area, no phone, but swimming pool, hot water, air conditioning and central heat, beautiful walks through wooded area up to edge of lake. Priced at Rooms for $50-70 double occupancy, all meals included--but seemed eager to discount substantially. Worth about $30 for two. Metsamor Motel Inexpensive (1 star) located in Metsamor Tel: (374-1) 27-73-69, ask for Spartak. Recently refurbished hotel in town, rooms sparse but functional, linen clean, hot water on schedule. Place to stay if you spend time at the excavation. Phone in lobby, no air conditioning. SGL/DBL/LUX at $10/20/30.

Village Homes In Vacheh, Aratashen And Taronik

Homes are located on the Cradle of Civilization Trail in Ararat Valley, leading to Metsamor Excavation Site. Offer rooms in their homes for very cheap prices. You get a bed, share meals with the family, and use of the outdoor facilities. For those who want real contact with local people, on a shoe-string budget. Vacheh: (Mokhrablur excavation) On the Road from Echmiadzin to Markara (take Echmiadzin-Markara or Echmiadzin-Taronik bus/private van at Echmiadzin bus station) Vacheh is a good stop for those exploring the Metsamor excavation region and Echmiadzin. It's only 9.7 kilometers from Echmiadzin city center. Ask at Vladik Ghavalian’s (From Markara highway, right 1 kilometer into Vacheh. 300 meters beyond you will see a "Camel" kiosk in front of a red stone cultural center, turn R. Go past the school and WW II monument to where the road stops at a "T" intersection. Turn R. Vladik’s house is the 4th on the left, #46, Shirvanzadeh St.) for overnight stays at homes in the village ($10-15 per bed with three meals). Aratashen: (Adablur excavation) Located 7.7 kilometers from Vacheh on Vacheh-Taronik Road (Echmiadzin-Taronik bus/private van). Vartan Terterian can arrange for meals or an overnight stay in a village house ($10-12 per night, includes three meals). The houses we saw were very pretty, they reminded us of stone cottages in the West of Ireland. The Kasakh River makes for some very nice walking, and the view of Ararat can’t be beat. Fresh cheese, wine and bread--it’s all here. Taronik: (Metsamor excavation/museum) Located 2.4 kilometers from Aratashen on the Aratashen-Taronik Road (Echmiadzin-Taronik bus/private van). Taronik is one of the larger villages in the area, and the excavation workers live there. They can point you in the right direction for bed and hearth in the village ($10-12 per night, includes three meals). Ask at the Metsamor museum (1.4 kilometers from edge of village) for recommended home.

Sevan

Camping: Cheap On the peninsula there is camp ground on the beach for AMD 1000 -3000 per night. Disco beach next door has $5 entrance fee. West Shore: Take the exit to Lechashen and Kamo and 7.5 kilometers on the left is camping area with cottages. Camping 1000-2000 AMD, cabins around $20-30 depending on size of group. The shore is filled with 1000-5000 per carload beaches, camping space ran 2000-5000 per night per group. Free-style camping along the shoreline is possible only if you check first, and only far from Sevan City. Domiks are temporary houses made mostly from renovated containers or small trailers. They are very basic, but provide a cheap overnight for the dedicated beach bum; 4000-7000 AMD was going rate in 2001. The hotel is locatd 65 kilomters farther around the shoreline from teh peninsula, in a secluded part of  the lake.  34-room hotel includes eighteen duplexes, 2 suites, and 14 large rooms each with its balcony.  Each room has its own bathroom,  beds feature wrought-iron headboards, Sealy Crown Jewel mattresses, and Frette sheets. there will be a common public area, swimming pool, spa, gorgeous views of Lake Sevan on the Eastern shore. Small/Large/Duplex/Suite go for $39-49/59/69/100. There are many Holiday Homes (Pensions) around Lake Sevan. Holiday Homes are factory, ministry, university or Institute owned rest areas for workers, though it seems anyone with even the flimsiest of connections gets in. If they have a room free, and you pay cash, they'll let you in. They prefer a minimum of three days, but if they aren’t busy, they’ll put you up for the night. Prices vary from $10-20/day per person for lodging and meals. August is the "Full" season, we advise you call ahead first or get someone to make arrangements for you.
